How to prepare and use the Testudo Herb Cobs

The diet of wild tortoises is always determined by the vegetation in their natural habitat. In their original environment the actual vegetation period is usually limited to a short time followed by dryness and heat from midsummer to autumn. The crude fibre content of the plants is relatively low and the protein content quite high during springtime. During summer herbs and grasses will "age". The crude fibre content therefore increases in midsummer while the protein content strongly decreases. Ideally the diet of captive-raised tortoises should also be adjusted to the respective season.

Testudo Herbs provide tortoises with feed specially adapted to their digestive systems. It contains a combination of fresh plants from lean meadows with over 60 different varieties of grasses and herbs ensuring a diverse and balanced diet for your animal.

Testudo Herbs for all types of tortoise:

  • provides nutrition in line with the natural habitats of tortoises

  • ensures an optimum supply of crude fibre for healthy gut flora maintenance

  • can be made available ad libitum

The protein content of PRE ALPIN Testudo Herb is extremely low and, at the same time, a very high crude fibre content. The reduced protein supply unburdens particularly liver and kidneys and promotes the detoxification of the body. This product offers an ideal calcium/phosphorus ratio as well as providing healthy intestinal flora due to optimal crude fibre content of the mix. It contains no cereals, animal products, flavouring or preservatives.

The mix of over 60 different herbs and grasses offers a diet adjusted to the natural habitat of tortoises and may be freely offered at any time. It is recommended by the Institute of Zoology in Munich

Feeding Recommendation

  • This mix is an ideal supplement to a fresh plant food diet (it should be used to alongside these foods, not as a replacement).

  • Soak an appropriate quantity (depending on the size of the animal) of Testudo Herbs Cobs for 10–20 minutes in water (depending on water temperature) and make freely available

  • Clear away any uneaten food daily

If the tortoises are reluctant to eat, mix the softened cobs with fresh wild herbs such as dandelion, plantain, dead nettle, or stinging nettle leaves. After a few days, the tortoises will selectively choose the cobs from the mixture.
Now the soaked cobs can be fed ad libitum.

You can also offer freshly collected wild herbs to ensure an adequate supply of all moisture-sensitive vitamins and vital substances. Testudo Herbs helps animals to produce firm and healthy faeces.
