Tortoise Rehoming

Whether you have a tortoise to rehome, you’d like to rehome a tortoise or you would like to be added to the waiting list for when your dream tortoise is available for rehoming, then we have a Tortoise Rehoming Service that can help you.

There is a small administration charge for using this service of £15, but if you’d like to leave a larger donation to help us continue the work we do, then please donate here.

🐢 Rehome my tortoise

🐢 Rehome my tortoise

  • If you have a tortoise that you'd like to rehome, we can put you in contact with potential new owners.

It will be down to you to interview the new owners to find out if you are happy that they can care for the tortoise, ask for photos of their setup, etc.

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions so you are happy that your tortoise is going to a loving new home.

All potential rehomers are asked to fill out a questionnaire and we will pass on the details to you, so you can make your decision on who you would like to take on the care for your tortoise.

It is your responsibility to make sure the tortoise has any relevant paperwork (A10 certificate) and is microchipped, if required by law, before sale. You can check here if your tortoise requires A10 certificate.

Please note: if you require a A10 certificate and don't have one, then either apply for it online, otherwise no money can change hands for the sale of the tortoise.

    Fee for Rehoming Service:

We charge a small administration fee for rehoming service of £15. This is non-refundable.

    Courier Fees

If you would like us to organise a courier (UK only) this is £65 for England/Wales (courier payment). If delivery to Scotland, please contact us to check delivery charges.

    Transportation boxes

You can purchase a transportation box here. For larger tortoises, contact us for a quote on bespoke transportation box.

If you'd like to go ahead and advertise your tortoise for rehoming, you will need to do the following:

    • Answer the questionnaire about the tortoise

    • Prepare your tortoise story (a little background on the tortoise, what food it likes, what it's character is, where it got it's name from etc) for the advert

    • Upload some photos of the tortoise (top view; side view; underneath; tail area to help confirm gender; face)

    • Pay £15 administration fee

Once we have all the above information, we will create the advert for you and aim to post it on our website within 5 working days. We will pass on details (email address and name) of anyone interested in rehoming your tortoise.

Please let us know when your tortoise is rehomed so we can remove the advert. The advert will be automatically removed after 60 days unless you have messaged us to request another 60 days.

Note: We accept no responsibility of any actions between parties (current owner and new owner) or for the health or welfare of the tortoise. It is down to you to research and conduct proper checks prior to completing the transaction.

If you have any questions, please let us know us using the Contact Us form.

Good Luck and hope your find the new forever home for your tortoise!

🐢 I want to rehome a tortoise

🐢 I want to rehome a tortoise

  • Thank-you for choosing to rehome a tortoise.

If there is a tortoise on our rehoming pages that you'd like to be considered for, or you would like to be added to our database to rehome a tortoise in the future, please fill out our short questionnaire for us to pass onto the current owners

If there is a tortoise that you'd like to rehome, we will put you in contact with current owners.  It will be down to the current owner to interview the new owners to find out if they are happy that you can care for the tortoise as well as you are happy to take on the care of the tortoise.  Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions so you are happy that you know how to care for that particular tortoise.  The current owners are asked to fill out a questionnaire and we will pass on the details to you.  Your completed questionnaire will also be passed onto the current owners, so you both can decide if you’d like to go ahead with this particular tortoise.

It is your responsibility to make sure the tortoise has the relevant paperwork (A10 certificate), if required by law, before sale.  You can check here if the tortoise requires A10 certificate.  Please note: if the tortoise requires an A10 certificate and doesn’t have one, then the current owner should either apply for one online or they can “gift” the tortoise to you (ie no money can change hands for the sale of the tortoise).

If the current owner wants any money for the tortoise, then this is down to you to negotiate directly with the current owner.

    Fee for Rehoming Service:

If you would like us to organise a courier (UK only) this is £65 for England/Wales (courier payment).  If delivery to Scotland, please contact us to check delivery charges.

You can purchase a transportation box here.  For larger tortoises, contact us for a quote on bespoke transportation box.

    Actions required

If you'd like to start the rehoming process, you will need to do the following:

    - Answer the questionnaire about how you will care for the tortoise

    - Be prepared to send photos of the enclosure you have and temperature information if requested

    - Pay £15 administration fee (below)

Once we have all the above information, we will pass this onto the current owner (excluding any telephone number and address – we will pass on the first part of the postcode so they have an idea of your location)

Note: We accept no responsibility of any actions between parties (current owner and new owner) or for the health or welfare of the tortoise.  It is down to you to research and conduct proper checks prior to completing the transaction.

If you have any questions, please let us know us using the Contact Us form.

Good Luck and hope you are able to rehome a tortoise!

Tortoises for re-homing

Leopard Tortoises

Tabitha the tortoise

Peggy the disabled tortoise

Tabitha (Female Leopard, 5 years)

“We got the tortoise in 2019 as a newborn. We then moved to Hong Kong for two years and she moved in with our friends. She is now back with us. She is very socially and walks around the garden in the sun, and the house. She is just too big for us now and think she would be happier with other tortoises.

NOTE: Tabitha has mycoplasma which she can transmit to other tortoises, so she cannot be housed with other tortoises. The mycoplasma does not affect her as she was treated for it 2 years ago and has had no problems since”

If you would like to adopt “Tabitha” and give her a loving, forever home, please complete the re-homers questionnaire so we can pass your information onto the current owner and provide you full details about this tortoise.

Peggy the disabled tortoise (Male Leopard, 6.5 years)

“Peggy” (yes she turned out to be a boy!) is our disabled leopard tortoise.  He is one of BB’s offspring and hatched too early - possibly due to having shorter limbs on one side of his body.

He was checked over by the vet when he was a few weeks old and it was confirmed that there were no health issues, just that limbs were shorter on one side.  The vet indicated an x-ray when he’s older would confirm if there were any malformed bones if we felt it necessary. He also advised that Peggy should lead a normal life - we were of course delighted to hear that and to be bringing him home!

We’ve now had him in our care for over 6 years and he’s thriving - a real character and charges about the place!  He loves being outside in the summer months and enjoys a typical leopard tortoise diet.  He requires no special care compared to our other leopard tortoises and gets on with life, despite his disability.

In the early days I saw him occasionally walk in a circle, it wasn’t clear if this was related to his limbs being shorter on one side or if there were any neurological issues.  No tests have been undertaken to confirm either way.

It would be lovely to see Peggy in an environment where he can bring joy to other people who have a disability or would benefit from animal therapy. If you would like to adopt “Peggy” and give him a loving, forever home, please complete the re-homers questionnaire so we review your suitability and provide you full details about this tortoise.
