Tortoises for re-homing

Leopard Tortoises

Tabitha the tortoise

Peggy the disabled tortoise

Tabitha (Female Leopard, 5 years)

“We got the tortoise in 2019 as a newborn. We then moved to Hong Kong for two years and she moved in with our friends. She is now back with us. She is very socially and walks around the garden in the sun, and the house. She is just too big for us now and think she would be happier with other tortoises.

NOTE: Tabitha has mycoplasma which she can transmit to other tortoises, so she cannot be housed with other tortoises. The mycoplasma does not affect her as she was treated for it 2 years ago and has had no problems since”

If you would like to adopt “Tabitha” and give her a loving, forever home, please complete the re-homers questionnaire so we can pass your information onto the current owner and provide you full details about this tortoise.

Peggy the disabled tortoise (Male Leopard, 6.5 years)

“Peggy” (yes she turned out to be a boy!) is our disabled leopard tortoise.  He is one of BB’s offspring and hatched too early - possibly due to having shorter limbs on one side of his body.

He was checked over by the vet when he was a few weeks old and it was confirmed that there were no health issues, just that limbs were shorter on one side.  The vet indicated an x-ray when he’s older would confirm if there were any malformed bones if we felt it necessary. He also advised that Peggy should lead a normal life - we were of course delighted to hear that and to be bringing him home!

We’ve now had him in our care for over 6 years and he’s thriving - a real character and charges about the place!  He loves being outside in the summer months and enjoys a typical leopard tortoise diet.  He requires no special care compared to our other leopard tortoises and gets on with life, despite his disability.

In the early days I saw him occasionally walk in a circle, it wasn’t clear if this was related to his limbs being shorter on one side or if there were any neurological issues.  No tests have been undertaken to confirm either way.

It would be lovely to see Peggy in an environment where he can bring joy to other people who have a disability or would benefit from animal therapy. If you would like to adopt “Peggy” and give him a loving, forever home, please complete the re-homers questionnaire so we review your suitability and provide you full details about this tortoise.
