The Arcadia Mini D3 UV Basking Lamp is an all-in-one bulb that combines heat, light and the all-important UVB (UV D3) your tortoise needs to be healthy.
The UVB emitted from this bulb is essential to allow vitamin D3 to be absorbed into your tortoise which in turn works with the calcium in a healthy diet to allow their bones and shells to be strong and healthy (and will help prevent metabolic bone disease).
The heat emitted from this bulb will provide a perfect basking area to allow them to thermoregulate.
The UVA light emitted from this bulb will provide a nice bright light allowing your tortoise to see during the day. It should be turned off at night to give your tortoise darkness at night and daylight during the day.
UVB emitted is invisible to the naked eye but the UVB in these bulbs does deteriorate after 6-12 months. After 6-12 months the UVB will be almost non-existent (even though the light and heat will still be working), therefore the bulb should be replaced or you could continue to use the bulb for heat and light BUT should offer an alternative UVB source in your tortoise table.

• Heat, light and UVB can be provided via other methods but it makes sense to go with an all-in-one bulb that will save the cost of additional equipment.

DO's and DONT's:
• DO hang the bulb VERTICALLY (not at an angle) to allow the convection currents in the bulb to work normally.
• DO use in an open-topped tortoise table (not and enclosed vivarium)
• DO wait for the bulb to cool before replacing
• DO use with the correct heat resistant lamp holder (for example: Exo Terra Glow light holder or Arcadia ceramic reflector holder (140mm for 80w bulb or 200mm for 100w bulb))
• DON'T use with a THERMOSTAT as this will damage the bulb
• DON'T touch the bulb when switched on as it reaches high temperatures
